Snow Storm

It was surprisingly cold and when we finally reached Joshua Tree National Park, there was a full snow storm in action. This didn't last long though and the next morning saw us crawling through the hills at a jet-laggingly early hour to look for wildflowers, because that was one reason we came to the desert in the first place. We were hoping that El Nino has been doing its thing, providing for a good wildflower display. And indeed we were not disappointed.

On we went over the sand dunes, across the plains and through the cafes of the Mojave desert.

Finally we reached one of our favorite resting places, Hotel Nipton. This is where the freight trains of the Union Pacific railroad steam right through your room. You should check it out, before it is made into a decadent resort for the golf playing morons of the remote control generation (if you allow this sweeping generalization). The Nevada state line is frighteningly close.
