Introduction

First we thought it would be an interesting opportunity to cross the country from the West coast all the way to the East coast. After looking at the maps though, we realized that there was so much we wanted to see in the Southwest, that we changed this plan and bought a ticket from Dallas to Zurich.

We had about six weeks to get from San Jose, California to Dallas, Texas and here's the story.

I wrote this diary while on the road, in the tent under candlelight, in the car on the dashboard, etc. which is why it is a bit rough at times. It is no work of literary art, nor politically correct at all times.

It took me quite a while to webify this thing. I did it mostly for ourselves, because this way it doesn't just disappear into a bottomless drawer or gather dust on a bookshelf, and it was a nice exercise in web site design. If it is useful to other people as well, all the better.
