On our way out of the valley we stop at the meadows at the base of El Capitan, to enjoy the morning sun and watch the climbers on that big wall. A bit further out, we take a hike to a small grove of Giant Sequoia trees. The big trees are embedded in wonderful fall colors.

We finally say goodbye to the mountains, hoping to see them again soon. After a quick pie stop in Jamestown, we do what we always do after leaving the mountains, drive for miles and miles and miles. Through the foothills, across the Central Valley, over the Sacramento river, up the Napa valley to end up in Calistoga. Rebecca organizes a nice room with the FoodTV channel on cable. So we're all set, and all that's left to do is to have dinner at the Catahoula restaurant. Turns out that either our standards changed or the restaurant is really not so good anymore. Also Geraldine seems exhausted from the long drive and doesn't quite cooperate, so we head for early bedtime.
